(SINGLE REVIEW) Big Bang - D
Who: Big Bang
Genre: Pop. Electro, Rock, Big Bang Ballad
Songs:
1. If You
2. Sober
If You: This is the Big Bang I like. The soft, musical Big Bang. Their recent releases have tended to be loud, electronic, confused-sounding messes that were popular more because they were released by an already well known group. But "If You" reminds everyone that beneath all the fashion disasters and controversies, Big Bang is comprised of five extremely talented young men. They all have distinct enough voices to bring a unique sound to their parts, but together, they sound like Big Bang. I wish they'd stick to songs like this to be quite honest. I don't care about their producing skills or if they write their own music, I just want to hear their voices in a good song.
Sober: I'm going to say it: GD needs to stick to rapping and producing. He has three very talented singers to pick from, but this song sounds more like "GD featuring the rest of Big Bang" and the rest of Big Bang are the better sounding ones. The song is good when GD isn't singing, and once again, I'm glad the overly electronic sound has been forgone for a more natural rock sound. Who doesn't like the sound of the drums, honestly? Songs like this (minus GD singing, which I'm sorry, I'm not going to let go of), remind me why Big Bang is popular: they have the talented voices that can do songs like these and convince you they can do any genre. Check out the music video:
Overall: Not my favorite Big Bang single ever, and I'm still waiting for that moment when GD realizes that over-producing a song is a thing, and that he has been guilty of it more than once. Big Bang are talented performers. They don't need a heavy beat and a dubstep break to be great. I guess the good thing about the fact that GD likes to brag about the fact that Big Bang makes their own music is that I know who to blame for those problems. Still, these songs are better than others, though they still aren't as great as Big Bang could make them if they were a little more focused on making music that showed off their vocal skills, rather than their ability to play around in the studio.
Score: 2.8/3
