Another girl group comeback; will it stand up to the others?
Remember [TITLE]: Considering that A Pink has become a powerhouse of title songs, I think a lot of people (including myself) are a little disappointed in this song. There have been a few times that a group's choice of title song seems strange at first, but as the promotions continue, it begins to make sense. This isn't one of them. The quality isn't exactly on par with other songs A Pink has put out, and this makes me feel like a rookie group did it, not the powerhouse that is A Pink. It's a cute song, but there are just some songs that were not destined to be great, and this was one of them. It isn't very catchy, and it just doesn't have that strong presence any group would need as a summer hit, particularly this summer, with all the summer hits being released. Sorry, A Pink. Your producers failed you. Check out the music video!
Perfume: Funky! I would love for this song to have a music video, if only to see something a little different than the typical "so sweet it'll rot your teeth" music videos that A Pink do. The song is a little too busy for my liking, particularly for this genre, but it's good to hear something different. I hope this doesn't stay my favorite song though; I'm still holding out hope that the A Pink Wall of Greatness will be in some of the following songs, but so far, I'm not thoroughly impressed. I nearly fell asleep during this song...
끌려: So far, I have questioned every single beginning on this album. I'm not sure what to think about them. Who was that guy at the beginning? why do all these beginnings fool me into thinking they're going to be one genre when they're actually another? Why? Having said that, once this song hits its stride, it's pretty good. Still a little confused, but at least I don't feel overwhelmed musically. And the vocals are quite good in some places, I must say. Overall, it's good, but by the end you'll feel like you've listened to it at least twice.
Dejavu: This is, so far, the most A Pink-sounding song on the album. It's slower, but it has that A Pink feel I was fearing they had forgone. Having said that, this is another song that makes you feel like you've listened to it more than you actually have. I found myself reaching for my phone on the first listen through, I was so bored. There are points of greatness, but they are few and far between on this song. I'm sure that if this album wasn't A Pink, I'd be a little more favorable, but when you usually release record-breaking stuff, a boring song or two really hurts.
꽃잎점: Did anyone else suddenly find themselves wishing it was Christmas time while listening to this song? I wish it was Christmas time, so A Pink could have had this as a title song and rocked it. I don't know, I just feel like this would be a great wintery song, and that with a few tweaks, it could have done much better as a title song than "Remember" did in the summer. I know they've already done a music video for this, and I feel like they've missed a really good opportunity. Still check out the music video!
What A Boy Wants: How cute is this song? This is the first song that had my foot tapping along, and made me smile. It isn't the strongest of songs, and it may not be conducive to a really catchy dance, but the song is catchy for a really good reason: it isn't just one girl singing at a time, there are layers, and it feels like all the girls recorded this together. My only real problem with this song is the ending, because I really don't like dialogue in songs, and it seemed so unnecessary after a good musical ending.
I DO: Yeah, I didn't expect that beginning. After quickly adjusting the sound, I found myself thinking about how this could be performed live. It may not be the strongest title song, but for fans, hearing and seeing this performed live would be a treat. It's not the A Pink that the public knows, per se, but it certainly does show the girls' talent. If they do perform this live on stage, let me know, because it seems like a great live song! Again though, the ending was just...odd.
신기하죠: I said a short prayer when this song began, hoping they weren't trying to do what IU did and bring older genres back into fashion, and I was so relieved to hear the pop side of this ballad, I can't even tell you. I do like this song--it's a good standard ballad for a pop group, and before the second time I heard the chorus, I knew the words that were coming. Still, this is the talent I expect from A Pink, it's just a shame the title song isn't as good as this one musically.
새끼손가락: This song probably should have gone somewhere else on the tracklist, just because it's such a "meh" way to end the album. Considering the previous song, I would have that as the final song. There's nothing really wrong sounding about this song, and there are moments of brilliance from a couple of vocalists, but it just isn't the strong ending a full album needs or deserves. This sounds more like a middle-of-the-album track--forgettable, but okay for daydreaming.
Overall: Considering my expectations, I am kind of disappointed in this album. All the songs had really strange endings (seriously, ALL OF THEM), and for some, their beginnings were even worse. As a language teacher once told me: "The beginning and end of your work are the most important--you want to instantly make an impression, and you want to leave them wanting more." This album was just okay--no songs really struck me as a song I wanted to listen to forever, and I have hope that one day, A Pink will be able to look back among all their other albums and call this the only one that wasn't as good as the others.
Score: 7.2/10
