I do love a good debut.

Technically, this is not KIXS' first run at the Korean entertainment scene--he was a member of DMTN (previously called Dalmatian), and though the group has yet to officially disband, the group has always had problems getting attention, or at least, the good kind of attention, despite the talent. 

With a member leaving, another enlisting, yet another aging (gracefully) out of the ideal idol age, and the notorious other member that got swept into a drug scandal, DMTN struggled and eventually disappeared.

Jeesu, one of the lead vocals of the group, has finally come back, even as a solo artist, and under a very strange stage name (It wasn't until I caught the hangeul that I realized it was supposed to be "kiss." Why there is an "X" in there I will probably never be able to fully understand, since an "X" in anything is pretty much asking for pronunciation questions. But I digress.

KIXS' debut song "Beautiful" can be described in one word: Jeesu.

Had anyone told me four years ago (has it really been that long?) that Jeesu would be having a solo debut, I would have expected it to sound like this. He was the cute squishy main vocal in DMTN, and his cheerful voice suits the upbeat tempo. The song shows off Jeesu's stong, impressively high-pitched vocals (Seriously--they're high enough that they could probably make some girl group vocalists jealous). His personality shines through--if you know his smile, you can hear it throughout the song. 

It's too early to tell just how well his new solo career will do, or what music he will do down the road, and as the only previous work he has done involved other voices, it's impossible to predict what kind of music he will end up doing, but for now, he is playing on his strengths, and that's a plus.

Cons: The featured rapper is not a DMTN member, Goo Hara feature in the music video, Jeesu is no longer the squishy,cute main vocal.
